Identification: The best way to identify a Smallmouth is in the upper jaw, which does not extend past the eye. Some other ways to identify it is there is no black lateral line down the middle of the fish and the dorsal and soft dorsal fins are connected.

Size: up to ten pounds, around here anything three and a half is a trophy

Range: most of central and northern California, there has been introductions in southern areas of the state but they have not been successful.
