Identification: the only sucker species in its range, they are much skinnier than a common carp and often have a blotchy pattern when young. The scales of a Sacramento sucker have a distinctive pattern that look like diamonds. These fish are usually a brownish color with a yellow belly.
Size: The Sacramento sucker can reach up to around 24 inches, however the average size I see is around 12 to 18 inches.
Range: Mostly found throughout the Sacramento valley. They can be found in a a few higher elevation rivers in northeastern California.
