Identification: the largest bass species, the best way to tell them apart from other bass species is the upper jaw extends past the eye, there is a deep notch between the spiny and soft dorsal fins and no toothy patch in mouth.

Size: up to around 20 pounds, in this area anything above five pounds is rare

Range: all of California excluding higher elevation water that has never been stocked
